random_booksPrinted versus Digital Reads

For me a book becomes real when I can hold it, admire it, and turn the pages. In its digital format it is still elusive to me – like it never quite made it to becoming real. (The stories of Pinocchio and The Velveteen Rabbit come to mind.)

I have a large collection of books at home, and I visit libraries and go out to bookstores for recreation. While I am grateful for the digital era, I defend the need for children’s picturebooks and storybooks to be physical, printed books.

What about you? Have you transitioned to digital readers and computers for your children? What do you prefer? What do your kids like best? Do printed and digital children’s books co-exist in your home? Please share with us your real life experience.
